Overview

A contemporary womenswear label whose customer arrives at the brand for a high-stakes moment (bridal, occasion, milestone) and stays for the everyday. Retention had to recognise both halves of that customer relationship without collapsing them into a single tone. We rebuilt the lifecycle programme around the real shape of customer behaviour, with segmentation that respected the difference between an event-buyer and a routine-builder.

THE CHALLENGE

The lifecycle programme treated every customer the same. A bridal buyer searching across a six-month consideration window was getting the same cadence as an everyday-occasion customer mid-purchase, and the brand's most loyal segment, the customer who came in for a wedding and stayed for the rest, wasn't being recognised distinctly at all.

Creative output had been keeping pace with the trading calendar, but lifecycle was lagging the brand standard. Templates had drifted, segmentation was shallow, and the loyalty programme wasn't earning the second purchase the customer base was capable of.

THE APPROACH

How the engagement was structured.

We rebuilt segmentation around the real customer arc: event-led entry, post-event nurture, transition into everyday wardrobe behaviour, and the long-cycle return for the next occasion. Lifecycle journeys were re-sequenced to respect the consideration window each cohort was actually operating on, with creative that matched the moment rather than running a single tone across every send.

Templates were redesigned end-to-end to match the brand's editorial standard. Creative for lifecycle started running on a cadence aligned with the trading calendar, with bridal and occasion content briefed alongside everyday collection comms rather than as an afterthought. The loyalty programme was reshaped to recognise high-value cohorts and earn the second purchase with content rather than discount.

Measurement gave the team a clearer read on which cohorts were responding to which stories, and the cadence between paid acquisition and lifecycle tightened so the two channels were briefed against the same view of customer behaviour rather than competing for credit.

THE OUTCOME

Retention kept building quarter on quarter as the segmentation work matured. Lifetime value calculations re-rated the bridal and occasion cohort, with the loyalty programme earning revenue from customers the previous setup had effectively under-served.

Lifecycle now runs as a real contributor alongside paid, with creative quality that matches the rest of the brand surface. The partnership operates as the retention layer rather than a deliverability function.
